Jaguars Rout Ravens 33-10 on Thursday Night as Baltimore Drops Fourth Straight

Trevor Lawrence threw a 50-yard touchdown and Cam Little kicked four field goals as Jacksonville improved to 6-2 with a rainy 33-10 win in Baltimore. The Ravens, starting third-string rookie Joe Fagnano, fell to 4-5.

The Jacksonville Jaguars took control early and never let go Thursday night, beating the Baltimore Ravens 33-10 in a rain-soaked Week 9 game at M&T Bank Stadium. Jacksonville improved to 6-2. Baltimore, playing with its third-string quarterback, lost for the fourth week in a row and fell to 4-5.

What happened

Jacksonville scored first on a 1-yard run by Bhayshul Tuten. Baltimore answered with a 53-yard field goal from Jake Moody, his first kick as a Raven, but Cam Little’s 36-yard field goal made it 10-3 after one quarter.

The play that changed the night came just before halftime. Trevor Lawrence found Parker Washington for a 50-yard touchdown, sending the Jaguars to the locker room up 17-3. According to the Ravens’ own recap, Jacksonville’s lead never dropped below double digits after that.

The second half belonged to Little. He added field goals of 45, 47 and 33 yards, finishing 4-for-4 on field goals and perfect on extra points. Chris Rodriguez ran in from 2 yards out to make it 33-3. Baltimore’s lone touchdown came late, on a 65-yard run by Justice Hill, the Ravens’ longest play of the game.

By the numbers

  • Trevor Lawrence: 16 of 26 passing, 242 yards, one touchdown.
  • Joe Fagnano (Ravens): 10 of 18 passing, 60 yards, two interceptions in his first NFL start.
  • Total yards: Jacksonville outgained Baltimore 319-227.
  • Turnovers: Montaric Brown and Jourdan Lewis each intercepted Fagnano, and Foye Oluokun had the Jaguars’ only sack.
  • Derrick Henry: 57 yards on 17 carries, passing LaDainian Tomlinson for seventh on the NFL’s all-time rushing list.

Why it matters

For Jacksonville, this was another strong showing from its defense. The team’s game report says the Jaguars have now held opponents to 10 or fewer points in back-to-back games and have allowed just 10 first-quarter points all season, the fewest in the NFL. At 6-2, Jacksonville leads the AFC South by three and a half games over Houston.

The Jaguars also did it without everyone at full strength. Defensive end Travon Walker (rib) and Tuten (foot/ankle) were both listed as questionable and played through their injuries.

For Baltimore, the loss deepened a rough stretch. After a 4-1 start, the Ravens are below .500 for the first time this season. The team’s own site noted two unwanted franchise firsts: three straight losses by 20 or more points, and four straight games held under 14 points. Seven penalties, including four false starts, did not help on a wet night.

The quarterback story

Baltimore entered the game short-handed at the most important position. Lamar Jackson is on injured reserve with a thumb injury, and backup Tyler Huntley reportedly suffered a season-ending turf toe injury last week, according to Yahoo Sports. That put undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano under center for his first start. As our preview of the game noted, Jacksonville came in favored, and the result followed that script.

Fagnano played with a heavy wrap on his right ankle, and the Ravens leaned on creative ideas, including several direct snaps to Henry. Help may be on the way: multiple outlets report the Ravens have agreed to trade for veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals, though the deal was not yet official at the time of these reports.

What to watch next

Baltimore gets a few extra days to regroup before hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football in Week 10. The Chargers are 0-7, the only winless team left in the league, so it is a real chance for the Ravens to stop the slide. Whether Brissett is officially on the roster, and ready to start, will be the big storyline.

Jacksonville also gets a long break after playing on Thursday. With a firm lead in the division and a defense playing at a high level, the Jaguars are now firmly in the middle of the AFC playoff race.

Why it matters for families

Thursday night’s game is a good conversation starter for young fans. A rookie who went undrafted got his first NFL start under tough conditions, in the rain, on national TV. Things did not go his way, but he stepped up when his team needed him. That is a lesson worth sharing at the dinner table: showing up and doing your best counts, even on a hard night.
